PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE | MUSEUM & CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS

2012- Present

Associate Curator of Education,Yale Center for British Art, New Haven, CT

Manages multiple museum projects by establishing goals and timelines for working with staff, volunteers, students, and outside vendors. Plans and facilitates long- and short-term goals for teaching content, developing social media and planning academic and community outreach. Oversees education programs and trains facilitators: 30 docents, 25 undergraduates, 200 teachers, 20 volunteers, to engage with over 15,000 students and visitors per year. Teaches object-based art history, audience engagement, studio art-making, multisensory teaching strategies, and counter-narratives for looking at museum collections. Oversees & develops program teaching goals and training for neuro-typical and special needs audiences of all ages. Researches and conveys best practices established by the Association of Art Museum Directors’ Next Practices in Diversity and Inclusion and current art museum education theories. Creates, facilitates, and evaluates programs promoting visual literacy with museum & curatorial departments, Yale College Education Studies, Center for Public Service & Social Justice, (Dwight Hall), the Office of New Haven and State Affairs, Child Study Center, Medical & Nursing Schools, GSAS, and McDougal Center. Builds educational partnerships for object-based teaching, art & life skills with schools in New Haven county and City of New Haven’s departments of Community Services; Education; Arts, Culture & Tourism. Reviews, monitors, and oversees multiple budgets, outreach initiatives, and goals in accordance with the Center’s, university, and grant funding guidelines. Writes proposals and grant content.

2008-2012

Art Coordinator, Metro Art Creative Services, Los Angeles, CA

Coordinated, managed and expanded the first docent program at a metropolitan transit agency. Supervised and professionalized volunteer docents to present public art tours, programs, and events in Metro stations. Oversaw tour schedules, recruited and trained new docents, wrote print and viral publicity, researched artists and public art, managed council revenue, strategized demographic outreach, translated goals between Metro and the Metro Art Docent Council. Organized artist studio visits, fabrication workshops, and large-scale arts events for the public.

2005-2007

Gallery Teacher, J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, CA

Developed and taught studio and gallery courses, educational programs and tours concentrating on specific interests to a diverse range of audiences. Worked in collaboration with departments to further the museum’s outreach goals through event planning. Researched and presented staff development sessions on contemporary art, studio art-making through art history, working with specific audiences, and exhibition related research.

2002-2005

Researched, administered and presented public programs including classes, gallery talks, teacher workshops, lectures, panels, symposia, & performances. Served as primary liaison to Yale faculty, curators, visiting artists and scholars by engaging them with the Gallery’s collections, exhibitions and facilities. Collaborated with the Yale School of Art, founded the Critical Conversations and Contemporary Artists lecture series. Planned member and donor development activities.

Organized and taught an intensive summer arts program for 9-12th grade students of New Haven Public Schools. Installed four Sol LeWitt works. Aligned project with grant standards.

Researched museum and cultural institution education programs throughout the Netherlands for Brent Wilson, Head of Museum Education, Pennsylvania State University.

Worked with Charles Garoian, Director of the School of Visual Arts and the Edwin Zoller Gallery to publicize events, streamline the exhibition schedule, and maximize budgeted funds. Coordinated and oversaw gallery installations and receptions.
